Response of chia plants to some fertilization treatments

Abstract

Two field experiments were carried out at the Experimental Farm and in the Laboratory of Horticulture Department Faculty of Agriculture at Moshtohor, Benha Univ., during 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 seasons  to study the effect of 20 treatments represented the combinations between five fertilization treatments i.e. (T1) control (without fertilization), (T2) full chemical fertilization dose, (T3) 75% full chemical fertilization dose + organic fertilizer (5 m3 compost) + bio fertilizer, (T4) 50% full chemical fertilization dose + organic fertilizer (10 m3 compost) and (T5) 25% full chemical fertilization dose + organic fertilizer (15 m3 compost)+ bio fertilizer and four concentrations of micronutrients (Fe+Zn+Mn) each at 0, 50, 100 and 200 ppm on vegetative growth, fixed oil productivity and some chemical constituents of chia (Salvia hispanica L.) plants. Obtained results showed that the highest values of vegetative growth (plant height (cm), number of branches/plant, fresh and dry weights of herb/plant (g) and leaves chemical composition (N, P, K and total carbohydrates %) were recorded by those fertilized with full chemical fertilizer dose, followed by those received75% full chemical fertilizer dose + organic fertilizer (5 m3 compost) + bio fertilizer and sprayed with 200 ppm Fe+Zn+Mn in the two seasons . Moreover, the highest values of fixed oil percentage, seed yield per fed. and fixed oil yield per fed. were scored by those fertilized with received75% full chemical fertilizer dose + organic fertilizer (5 m3 compost) + bio fertilizer and sprayed with 200 ppm Fe+Zn+Mn in the two seasons.
