Socio-Economic Variables Associated With The Rural Family Doing Home Farm Activities In Bahariya Oasis

Abstract

    The research aims to identify the personal characteristics of the rural family in the Bahariya Oasis, determine the household farm activities of plant production, animal production, and rural industries carried out by the rural family from the point of view of the heads of families surveyed in the research area, determine the degree to which the rural family undertakes each activity The studied home farm, identifying the social and economic variables that affect the rural family’s household agricultural activities, determining the relationship between social and economic variables and the degree to which the rural family performs home farm activities, identifying the problems facing the rural family in carrying out home farm activities from the point of view of the heads of families The respondents, to come up with suggested solutions to overcome the problems they face in carrying out the home farm activities in the research area.
The research was conducted in Giza Governorate - Bahariya Oasis (Al-Bawiti Center - Mandisha Village - Al-Zabou Village - Al-Qasr Village), and the sample size was 200 farmers from the heads of rural households, which is a random sample. September and October 2021. In tabulating and analyzing the data, the researcher used tables of numerical enumeration, percentages, congruence coefficient (K2), and simple correlation coefficient.
The most important results were:
- It was found from the results that more than two thirds of the respondents fall into the category of high level of doing home farm activities related to plant production, and their percentage reached 69.0%.
- It was clear from the results that the highest percentage of the respondents fall into the category of high level of household farm activities related to animal production, and their percentage reached 89.0%.
- The results showed that more than fifty respondents fall into the category of low level of household farm activities related to the production of rural industries, and their percentage reached 43.0%.
- There is a significant correlation between the variables, monthly income, number of family members, the size of the agricultural holding, and the size of the animal holding of the respondents and the degree to which the rural family does household farm activities related to plant production, where the values ​​of the calculated simple correlation coefficient, respectively, reached 474. 321. , 548., 476. It is greater than its tabular counterpart.
